Choose the right document format

Choose the editor and format that fit the way the deliverable needs to be used.

Choose the editor based on how the deliverable needs to be read, edited, or presented.

Common choices

  • Text editor: proposals, reports, briefs, contracts, statements of work, invoices, and long-form documents.
  • Visual or interactive editor: decks, presentations, and pages where layout carries meaning.
  • Data editor: sheets (currently in beta) and structured information that needs rows, columns, formulas, or CSV/XLSX output.
  • Canvas or whiteboard: early thinking, diagrams, workshops, and flexible visual collaboration.

From Documents, select the document type that matches the job. You can also start with Studio and choose the type after giving it your source context. When you are unsure, use a text document for the first draft and move to a visual or data format when the content is ready for presentation.
